it's true.

You can't even disable screensavers while watching movies.
Not being able to configure such a common task is unacceptable.

CPU energy saving is not recognized and runs at full speed all the time, if you want a silent computer, go away.

Even stable applications from Ubuntu software center crash, just imagine unsupported apps.

Installing Ubuntu is like having to do all your shopping in an USSR hard-discounter in the 80s. Nothing except poor ersatz.

So it's free but you will spend hours of free time configuring Ubuntu.
Imo, I prefer to pay for an OS and use it immediately.

Great utility but I can't save plugin's configuration on Win7 64bit using Winamp v5.572 and snarl v40.15.

I still use it though

the new release of foobar is supposed to be a bit better out of the box, but i haven't played with it yet. really love mediamonkey. works great for large libraries and has winamp (2?) plugin support

also for what it's worth i hear great things about mediamonkey and foobar2000 (although apparently you have to customize foobar2000 pretty heavily in order to get it how you want it).

Awesome that it does LaTeX. I think I've forgotten all my LaTeX knowledge since leaving Bowdoin. Boo.

When I read the title I thought you were going to be hacking a GPS. Haha. Then I realized that's TomTom , not Tomboy.

Did you ever come across his "imagine the Gods are playing a game of chess" analogy? It's real good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1dgrvlWML4.

Unfortunately, I really don't have the time to experiment as much I used to. I do, however, want to point out that if I had installed Ubuntu in a VM in order to try it out before I installed it, the bug wouldn't have become apparent because the install would have used a different video driver.
